CREATIVE CD RW RW8438E DRIVER
Hope none of you ever get duped like this. Thought I’d give it all a try before getting rid of this drive. Am open to any further suggestions, Ego Dog edit: I have firmware revision FC03; this doesn’t seem related in any way to previous firmware.
Sold it last week though. In xp, I get these results at command prompt C: Nice 4MB buffer also, but of course no buffer underrun prevention technology like the nice new Plextors Fri Dec 14, 8: I had a and never had a lick of trouble with it. I have seen two of them myself, they look completely different. There are 3 versions of Creative’s 8W4RW drive.

Creative CD-RW RW8438E using CD-RW12x says write protected.
I thought that the Nero software might be at fault, but it happens when I use it to just play music with the Windows CD player too. That’s all well and good, but if it’s trying to extract digital audio at a speed the drive doesn’t support, I suppose that may be my problem with the skipping.
Again, too late to edit, but Creatiive I’ll post with results. When I use it to extract audio, that’s when there will be crwative skip in the music. It seems that it will nearly always skip when playing music.

I ignored the issue until just recently, and I’ve decided to switch to XP and wanted to back up my files. I correct what I said earlier, my friend with the identical drive, same problem, he had never noticed because he personally hadn’t used it to make audio CDs yet. Will try the above link again, but I don’t think they have my craetive listed.
If that sounds good, drop me an email in the profile and we can work something out. I did get one to set up the flash utility that downloads with the firmware. Time for bed, I’ll fiddle more tomorrow. It’d be worth it to me to get rid of that origin of much stress.

OF course, all of this is moot since it’s nearly a year after this was popular. I can just pick one for cheap next time I’m on “neweggg”.

I can close the drive fine if there is nothing for it to load. So, keep trying to fix it. I don’t think it makes a difference if it is master or slave, also does it skip at the same interval or is this at differnt times.
